 !  President: John Rutter CBE

Trianon was delighted and privileged when eminent composer and conductor, John Rutter CBE, accepted the Group's invitation to become its new President in February 2007.  He succeeded Sir Malcolm Arnold CBE, who died on 23 September 2006.

There have been only four Presidents in the history of Trianon, since its formation in 1959, the other two being Imogen Holst CBE (daughter of Gustav Holst), and Professor Peter Aston.

In his acceptance letter to Trianon (17 February 2007), John Rutter wrote:

John Rutter copyright OUPI feel greatly honoured to have been invited to succeed so eminent a musician as Sir Malcolm Arnold as President of Trianon Music Group.  We were all saddened to learn of his death last year, though the huge and not always fully recognised contribution he made to British Music during his long and productive life as a composer will surely live on.

Trianon Music Group has, I know, also made a notable contribution to British music in a different way, by enriching the musical life of East Anglia for almost fifty years now.  Just to look through a list of the music which has been performed by this remarkable group gives an idea of how far-reaching and forward-looking its role has been in bringing live music to the region and touching the lives of countless performers and listeners.

I wish the Group well in all its future ventures, and look forward to seeing what new triumphs the coming years bring for you all.
