January Concert cancelled
STATEMENT FROM TRIANON MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE 17 December 2021
It is with the greatest regret that the Trustees of Trianon have decided that, due to the latest variant of Covid 19, all rehearsals scheduled for the 8 January concert should be cancelled, and that the concert itself also be cancelled.
Members who have attended the winter rehearsals will know that Trianon established a Music Strategy Group comprised of members of the Music Committee and Trustees. It has been meeting regularly for months monitoring the changing external environment and the prevailing advice and regulations in order to recommend what activities Trianon could manage safely. Throughout, Trustees have been committed to ensuring the continued health and safety of participating members.
However, events since Friday 11 December when the MSG met have raised challenges which constitute a situation considered of too great a risk to members. The MSG have followed the information provided by scientific experts regarding the nature of Omicron- its transmissibility, the possible impact on large gatherings of people, and the trajectory of infection; together with the advice that has been given.
As a result, the MSG had a long discussion on 15 December and recommended to Trustees that all rehearsals should be cancelled with immediate effect, together with the concert. This was endorsed via a Zoom meeting on 17 December.
We all recognise the hard work that has already been expended by so many of the Group in preparation for the January concert and the enthusiasm shown at rehearsals. The decision has been an extremely difficult one to make especially given the uncertainty of a changing situation, but Trustees trust that members will appreciate the duty of care which they have for the activities undertaken in the name of Trianon.
Repatriation of Music
On a practical note, one of the most urgent of activities is the repatriation of music. There is a time-limit imposed by the companies and libraries from which it was borrowed. Beverley Ruddock has agreed to oversee the process of the return of both choir and orchestra music, with help from volunteers. We have arranged for collection periods as follows:
- Thursday 23 December 7-8pm Rushmere Hall School
- Tuesday 4 January 7-8pm Rushmere Hall School
- Wednesday 5 January 7-8pm Rushmere Hall School
We realise that, for some members, these arrangements may not be possible. For that reason, if you cannot make one or other of these dates, would you please contact Beverley (Tel. 01473 424018, e-mail: email@example.com) as soon as possible to discuss other possible arrangements. Please do that before taking further action.
Once again, can we remind you to keep a watch on the Trianon website because there may be other updates which will be posted.
Our thanks to the support shown over the past three weeks and which continues to be offered. Trustees and members of the Music Committee have planned a full programme of activities for 2022 and will endeavour to ensure that the life of Trianon will continue as circumstances allow. We will be making music together again.
Meanwhile, can we extend Seasonal greetings to all our members, our friends and families and we will come together in 2022.
On behalf of the Trustees of TMG.
Simon Fisher, Chair
